I remember when working in ‘Corporate America’, waking up every morning asking myself "What to Wear?”. I wanted to make sure that abide to the company's dress code policy. If you have been following me long enough you could probably imagine this came as a struggle for me because I like to wear what I want to wear, hats to work and all, smh. We are expected to stick close to the basics to ensure that we are always dressed “appropriately” for work...BORING! Now, do not get me wrong, for some this definitely needs to be written out but for people who understand the differences between the types of corporate dress codes: business formal, business professional, business casual, and casual should not have a problem with selecting items to wear to work.

Needless to say, individuals should be able to express their personalities in their wardrobe for work. Corporations should stop pretending to be so conservative and modify their dress codes because just like clothes, tattoos, hair color and piercings these things do not determine the skills of an employee.

This post is for those individuals who dare to be different. Make it happen! Get up in the morning and wear exactly what your heart desires...as long as it is not a “silk teddy or mini skirt”. Have fun with your wardrobe! Be bold with your colors or patterns. Start with a monochromatic look, which helps with keeping things cohesive. Even if it is going green, do it!

My featured piece in this look is a semi-sheer green double-pocket Convertible Sleeve Portofino Shirt. This shirt can be paired with several things for work, skirt, pants, or a blazer. It is a good transitional piece meaning, it can be worn to work or even outside of work with a pair of jeans. If you are unable to find one similar at your local Goodwill, no problem! This type of shirt is a classic, which means it is usually always available on the brands website. They have several colors available, my favorite colors are rose blush, cobalt blue and chianti.

I decided to go green and pair this look with a neutral shoe and handbag to match to tone things down just a tad, and I mean a tad. The fun thing about this look is the abstract printed skirt. It gives this look personality without stepping to far outside of a corporate dress code. For a chilly day I decided to throw in the leopard printed scarf because mixing prints is fun. I added a basic trench to keep this look a Spring classic and my current favorite spring color, red-orange for a pop of color on my lips and my fingertips. Go Green Girl!
