I recently took a visit to my hometown Detroit, Michigan and it was inspiring. Things have changed for the better and in some instances for the worse, but that comes with growth. The heart of Detroit is so present and the people display so much spirit and perseverance despite the many changes around them. There are block upon blocks of abandoned homes that are disintegrating, homes that are being renovated, and some empty lots from previously removed home. Despite these many changes, Detroit continues to go through its rebirthing process. With much time and effort, there is so much opportunity in the land, and historic monumental buildings in order to transform the city back into its original form.

Nashville is my current hometown, being here for twelve years I have watched it grow and expand to limits that most of us here never imagined. Detroit is the largest city in the midwestern state of Michigan, and maybe just a little bit larger than Nashville. For the last five to ten years, I have watched Nashville go from a mostly rural, industrial but thriving city to now what's considered as Nashvegas! To the cities have so much comparison when it comes to the spirit of the people. There is diversity, charm, creativity, love, humanity, change and hope it both Nashville and Detroit.

While driving around Detroit's neighborhoods and downtown areas I couldn't help but have hope and be inspired. I could see all of the endless possibilities for the city to have life again. Living in another city and not being home often or close to family regularly, I have learned that seclusion allows you to grow and expand your mind to really appreciate everyone and everything that life has to offer. It has allowed me to get out of my comfort zone. It has truly been a testament for me to aspire others to do better and be better, not through competition or strife or anything like that but just an opportunity to want to change and do something different.

Your heart never leaves your hometown and Dorthy couldn't have said it any better, There's No Place Like Home!
